SPEAKER

Dr. Meena Sakharkar is a member of the Pharmaceutical and Nutrition Sciences Research Group (PNSRG) and is a tenured Professor at the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition, University of Saskatchewan, Canada.

She joined the college in 2014 following her appointment as a professor at the Graduate School of Life and Environmental Science at the University of Tsukuba, Japan.

She obtained her PhD from the National University of Singapore, Singapore, followed by postdoctoral training at Stanford University.

She teaches courses on pharmaceutical biotechnology, pharmacogenomics, personalized medicine, and drug design.
She has published over 130 articles in peer-reviewed international journals and continues to serve on national and international grant review panels.

She is also a member of the Council of Strategic Grant Advisors at the University of Saskatchewan.

Her research interests are in drug target identification and validation using multiple cross-disciplinary approaches. Currently, her lab is investigating the role of PPAR gamma and its targets in breast cancer and Parkinson’s disease.

She also has an active research program that involves designing novel antibiotic-phytochemical drug conjugates by using fragment-based drug design for treating bacterial infections in dairy cattle.

Her research is funded by the National Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), Canada, and the Agriculture Development Fund, Government of Saskatchewan, Canada.
